Literature

(F. & S. II.147)

In this composition, Warhol transforms a photographic portrait of Jagger through bold colour overlays, expressive line work, and dynamic contrasts. The result is both a recognisable likeness and a stylised icon, reflecting Warhol’s fascination with fame, image-making, and mass media. Hand-drawn elements layered over the photograph introduce a sense of movement and individuality, distinguishing the work from traditional portraiture.

Part of a portfolio of ten screenprints, Mick Jagger (F. & S. II.147) exemplifies Warhol’s mastery of the silkscreen medium and his ability to elevate cultural figures into enduring artistic symbols. Today, the work remains highly sought after by collectors and is regarded as a landmark example of Warhol’s exploration of celebrity, identity, and visual culture in the 20th century.
